The Digital Self by liadys The Digital Self by liadys
How do we present ourselves in cyberspace?

There is a certain degree of anonymity, yet we can choose how much to reveal about ourselves, whether it is superficial or personal information. In a digital world, do we keep with our personalities and behaviors in the "real world," or do we split ourselves apart into fragmented behaviors and become a polyvocal entity?

I guess this is kind of a continuation of [link]

And eventually led to this one: [link]

Each shade of gray is a different word...
First person to find all seven gets.... a..
... virtual hug...

Wonderful! It really goes well with your previous work. Something about the gradation just pulls you in to those eyes. I think anyone who spends a great deal of time online has pondered the meaning and/or reality of the connections we make in cyberspace; whether it counts as "real" or not and whether the self we project is real. Awesome piece.

I can only find 6 of the words so far. *looks harder*

Thanks =)

Someone once told me that she preferred the term "meat world" rather than "real world" since the actions we perform are still pretty real in itself, it's just presented in a digital format that makes it harder for us to wrap our heads around.

Six is pretty good! Which ones have you found? If the seventh is too hard to find, I might go back and edit it to make it a little more visible..

Ok, let's see... paradox, unstable, revealing, anonymous, fragmented, and superficial. :D

Augh.. the last one is polyvocal.. I guess it's not actually a real word so it made it a little harder to find... (?), but it was something I came across while reading a communications/media theorist's essay
